How do I group a Cycle Count by a category?

Group cycle count items by category - such as storage location.

The items in your cycle counts can be grouped into a category that is applied to the ingredients, vendor items, and/or recipes in the cycle count. These groupings are often used to represent Storage Locations.

To group cycle count items by a category, follow the steps below.

  1. Create a category (or use an existing category) and tag the appropriate items.
  2. Once your items are tagged, create a Cycle Count based on a set of menus or based on a Cycle Count template.
  3. Once the Cycle Count is created, click the Group By dropdown and select the category that you wish to use. The dropdown contains categories that are associated with the items in your cycle count. The category is indicated with the icons on the left side of each row, indicating if the option is an ingredient, recipe, or vendor item.

NOTE: If a category name is used for multiple types of items, they will be condensed into a single row. By selecting that condensed row, each type will be used to group simultaneously.

Your cycle count's items will be grouped by the category values of your selected category.

If the category name and category value name are the same multiple categories (e.g. a recipe category and ingredient category are both named Storage and both have a category value named Freezer), items with the similar tag will be grouped together.

If an item has multiple tags associated with it for the same category, the item will appear in multiple groupings. When this occurs, there will be a (!) symbol next to the item's quantity. This indicates that the item exists in multiple groups, and that the quantity that you enter is across all groups.

If you are using these groupings for storage locations, the item's quantity represents how much you have on hand across all storage locations, not just the storage location that you are currently viewing.
