7 C's: Categories

Galley allows you to tag your recipes, ingredients, and other items by any category and category values you envision.

Here are a few examples of categories our customers find useful to create and build out:

  • storage area (gets applied at the ingredient level) to drive cycle count templates & taking inventory
  • recipe author (applied at the recipe level)
  • prep area (applied at the recipe level)

You can create a new category on the Categories page. You first click the + icon, give your category a name, and then give the category its values.

To add a category to a recipe or ingredient, click “Show” and “Add Tag”. Then, select the category name and value that you would like to apply. Once you get familiar with the category basics, you can do things like bulk tag items and filter your database views by categories.

Categories become incredibly valuable in Galley's more advanced workflows. If you use storage area categories at the ingredient level, you can easily break out your inventory cycle counts based on your ingredient storage areas. If you use prep area categories at the recipe level, you can easily break out your production packets based on the various prep areas in your kitchen.
