What are ingredient external names?
An ingredient's external name defines how you would like for an ingredient to be referenced by your customers. For instance, there may be additional information about an ingredient that is useful for your kitchen team but you may not want someone outside of your organization to see (think "chicken breast, random"). Ingredient external names can be updated via the External Name field on an ingredient's page. Ingredient external names are initially set to match the ingredient's name.
How do I enable ingredient external names?
If you don't see the External Name field on an ingredient's page, it may need to be enabled in your account. An account admin can enable ingredient external names via the Company Settings page.
How do ingredient external names affect nutrition labels?
How an ingredient appears on nutrition labels is based on the ingredient's external name. The ingredient list on a nutrition label references ingredient external names.
Additionally, if an ingredient is associated to a dietary flag for which a species must be noted (tree nuts, fish, or shellfish) the ingredient external name will be displayed in the allergen statement.
