What is a sub-recipe?

A sub-recipe refers to a recipe that serves as a component within a larger parent recipe. Essentially, any recipe can function as a sub-recipe, and sub-recipes can also include their own sub-recipes.

The primary purpose of sub-recipes is to streamline the parent recipe by dividing it into smaller, more manageable recipes that align with specific production needs. For instance, a sub-recipe like Tomato Sauce may be prepared prior to putting together a pasta dish.

When developing a parent recipe, if you identify a segment that you would like to be reusable in other contexts, it may be beneficial to create that segment as a standalone recipe. This can then be incorporated into the parent recipe as a sub-recipe.

For example, consider the parent recipe "Burrata Chopped Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette." If you wish to utilize the "Lemon Vinaigrette" in various other dishes, it would make sense to establish the "Lemon Vinaigrette" as its own independent recipe and include it as a sub-recipe within the "Burrata Chopped Salad with Lemon Vinaigrette".
