Product Release Note - Menu Planner Highlight Improvements

Product Update - 7/9/25

Hey folks,

We’ve added some fresh ingredients to your Menu Planner experience — our Highlight functionality just got a tasty upgrade! The first set of improvements is live and ready to spice up your workflow.

Here’s what’s on the menu:

🔍 Highlight ingredients added as Event Items

Need to find specific ingredients in your events?
Just:

  • Click "Search Event Items"

  • Open the settings/configuration panel

  • Under Search by, select "Name"

  • Under Search depth, choose "Event item"

  • Type the ingredient name, select it from the list, and voilà — every matching item will be highlighted!

🧩 Highlight ingredients used in recipe components of Recipe Event Items

Wondering if an ingredient is used inside a recipe?
Do the same as above, but in Search depth, choose "Event item and its recipe components".
Now you’ll see every Recipe Event Item that includes that ingredient — whether it’s a standalone or mixed in.

🏷️ Highlight by tags — at the item level

Want to highlight recipes or ingredients with a specific tag?

  • Click "Search Event Items"

  • In Search by, choose "Category and Value"

  • In Search depth, pick "Event item"

  • Select the tag category and value — and boom! You’ll see them light up.

🍲 Highlight by tags — including recipe component-level tags

Need a deeper flavor scan? This one shows tags inside recipe components too:

  • Same as above, but set Search depth to "Event item and its recipe components"
You’ll now see event items that have the tag either directly or in their recipe components.

🗓️ Navigating your highlights just got easier

Once items are highlighted, they’ll appear in the day columns of the planner.
You can:

  • Focus on a specific result by day

  • Use arrow keys to navigate
No need to expand each event — we’ll do the legwork for you!

🔢 Highlight up to 5 items or tags

Feeling extra curious? You can highlight up to five different things at the same time — mix and match between items and tags to get exactly what you’re looking for. Perfect for spotting trends or checking compliance in a flash.

🔜 What’s cooking next?

We’re just getting started. Soon, you’ll be able to:

  • Highlight recipes (not just ingredients)

  • Search using keywords like “chicken” and highlight everything with it

Give it a try and let us know what you think — or if you hit any bumps. We’re here to help!

Happy planning,
The Galley Team 👩‍🍳
