How does Galley Assist suggest unit conversions?

Get a suggested weight-to-volume or pack-size conversion right where you manage units, and decide whether to accept it.

Density conversions are central to accurate costing and nutritional analysis, but tracking them down has always been a chore. Finding reliable conversions online is hit-or-miss, and weighing items manually takes time your team doesn't have. When an ingredient has no weight-to-volume conversion, Galley Assist suggests one a few seconds after you open Custom Units & Conversions, or when you click + next to Conversions. On a vendor item, click + next to Conversions. No hunting for data.

Automatic Inline Suggestions

Galley Assist estimates a density with AI and suggests it right in the workflow. Check the confidence label before you accept.

A lookup can take up to about 20 seconds. You see Looking up density... while it works, and No density found if there is no answer. Only people who can edit the item see suggestions.

✓

Transparent AI Reasoning

Each AI suggestion is labeled High confidence, Medium confidence, or Low confidence. Hover the (i) icon next to the confidence label to see why Galley Assist suggested that number.

Suggestions are AI estimates, so check them before you accept, especially a Low confidence one. High confidence is used sparingly. A pack-size suggestion such as 1 case = 40 lb is rated Low confidence unless the item name states a count, such as 24CT.

Works on Ingredients, Recipes and Vendor Items

Works on ingredients, recipes and vendor items, and when you fix a missing conversion in the Issues queue or a recipe's Costing Issues window. Galley Assist also suggests a weight for a pack size or count unit used in recipes, such as 1 each = 2 oz.

✓

Unit Picker with Auto-Scaling

Change either unit, such as cup to tbsp or lb to g, and the number recalculates. You can't type over the number; to use your own, dismiss the suggestion and add the conversion yourself.

Good to know: Galley Assist does not suggest a density when the ingredient already has a weight-to-volume conversion, including one from its primary vendor item or its USDA match.

Admins can turn suggestions off separately for ingredients, recipes and vendor items. On the Account page, open the Settings tab and clear Auto-calculate missing unit conversions under Ingredient, Recipe or Vendor Item. All three are on by default. The Ingredient setting also covers a recipe's Costing Issues window, and the Vendor Item setting covers the Issues queue.

With the Recipe setting off, Galley still warns when a recipe's saved weight-to-volume conversion disagrees with its own ingredients. That check is a calculation and does not use AI.
