Differences between Vendor Item Inventory Unit and Ingredient Inventory Unit
This article explains the differences between Vendor Item Inventory Unit and Ingredient Inventory Unit. What do they do, and when is using one (or both) recommended?
What is an Inventory Unit?
The Inventory Unit is the originally suggested unit that will appear when taking a cycle count. However, users have the ability to change the unit of measure from the inventory unit while taking a cycle count if they so choose.
If the ingredient is connected to a vendor item, the vendor item's inventory unit will take precedence over the ingredient's inventory unit.
Ingredient Unit Precedence
An Ingredient’s Inventory Unit is used when an ingredient that does not have an associated vendor item is added to a Cycle Count.
If an Ingredient has an associated vendor item, the Vendor Item’s Inventory Unit is used instead of the Ingredient Inventory Unit.
Summary
The Ingredient Inventory Unit is used when an ingredient does not have a vendor item associated, otherwise the Vendor Item Inventory Unit is used.
